  • 【MULTIFUNCTIONAL TESTER】Thickness gauges are used to measure the thickness of metal coatings and other coatings such as paint/enamel/chrome on steel, paint and anodized coatings on aluminum/copper. Automatic detection of substrate properties. It has small size and high precision battery level indicator. It also has automatic shutdown function, used for FE/NFE.
  • 【1UM RESOLUTION】The large LCD display of the paint depth gauge shows the metal type, operating mode, quantity, battery status and the reading in µm, mm or mils. The thickness gauge has a measurement range of 0-2000um, an accuracy of ±(3%+1um), and a resolution of 0um-999um (1um).
  • 【Record Various Data】It can record the average value, maximum value, minimum value, dif at the same time, and supports up to 50 data for statistics, making the numerical data you measure more accurate and convenient. If the auto power off function is on and there is no operation for 3 minutes, the instrument will automatically shut down to save battery power.
  • 【CLEAR DISPLAYS】The depth gauge meter with large display will clearly show the metal type, operating mode, data, battery status and reading in µm or mils. This coating thickness gauge is used to non destructively measure the thickness of coatings and paints. It is an essential equipment for material surface treatment.
  • 【WIDELY APPLICABLE】It is used to non-destructively measure the thickness of coatings and paints. It is an essential equipment for material surface treatment, widely used in manufacturing, metal processing industry, chemical industry, commodity inspection and other fields, and can also work stably in laboratories, workshops and outdoors. Suitable for automotive paints, powder coatings, furniture, swings, cabinets and lockers, computers, appliances, toys, etc.

This works well on ferrous and other metals as advertisedNot for use on plastic , carbon fibre etc.Good to give you some idea of what you’re working with re detailing.

This is the QUMOX digital coating thickness gauge. According to the specifications, it can measure anything from 0 to 2000 µm (2 mm). The build quality is decent; everything fits and functions as it should. The entire body and buttons are made of hard plastic. The LCD screen is backlit and easy to read straight on, but viewing at an angle is not ideal.Functionally, this gauge works great. It's easy to use, and measuring the same spot several times yields consistent readings. This gauge can also determine if the metal underneath the paint is a magnetic substrate (FE) or a non-magnetic substrate (NFE).I tested the gauge on my car and it correctly identified the doors (aluminum) as being NFE and the fenders and trunk (steel) as being FE.It also has a function that shows you the average of a set of readings. This is a great little gauge and a handy tool if you need to know how thick finishes are on various metallic objects.

Ordered this mainly to identify any previous repair on the body of the car when buying a used car. with this in hand, the salesman will tell you the truth most of the time bcuz they know that you can check the thickness of the paint. For 20, I think it offer a great value for what I need.

I've never used/ owned a digital thickness gauge before and I wasn't expecting much- given this one is under $30.Playing around with the gauge, (prior to reading the instructions- I'm a male), proved it was easy to work out the basic functions without diving into the instructions. Measuring different positions on painted metal items showed the repeatable accuracy is excellent. It also comes with samples of perspex type material of differing labelled thicknesses, and a piece of aluminium to sit them on for testing the calibration of the gauge. Even straight out the box, there wasn't much of an error with the measurements. The instructions guide you through calibrating the gauge- if it's required. The screen is backlit, so easy to read in all lighting conditions. Batteries aren't supplied, so you'll need 2 x AAA batteries. NiMh rechargeables work, but may indicate low battery charge levels.I'm looking at buying a used vehicle so a tool like this is invaluable for detecting possible panel repairs. This thickness gauge is a great tool to have when buying a used vehicle. It even gives the maximum/ minimum and average depths after completing a group of measurements.

I restore heritage motor vehicles and I do not normally specifically measure my automotive paint thickness. The QUMOX Digital Coating Thickness Gauge, Portable Paint Thickness Meter gave me the opportunity to check my work against my perceived paint & prep coverages. This unit is medium sized - it fits comfortably in your hand; not too long or thick, has an easily readable screen and a hand lanyard to ensure that you do not accidentally drop it. The instruction are OK, perhaps readability could be improved but it is adequate to explain all that needed to use this device. It does not comes with the two required AAA batteries so, you need these to get started. My auto painting thickness, by my estimates, is usually around 200 - 230 microns, so the QUMOX Digital Coating Thickness Gauge, Portable Paint Thickness Meter was put to the test on a panel recently painted, after carrying out the calibration instructions. The auto mode was used and the gauge detected that the base was ferrous metal and that the total thickness of covering was 185 microns. This was a believable result and the image included shows that reading. Additional readings were taken around the panel and similar results were obtained +/- about 30 microns. This unit is easy to use, gave good consistent and believable results and is is worth the investment in my view. I will continue to use this gauge in future projects. What I like: light easy to use, good screen lighting and great contrast of figures and lettering, comfortable good size. No particular dislikes just tidy up the instruction a little. Worth your serious consideration.

This is a very useful tool. Using this, you can check over a car you are thinking of purchasing, and it will tell you the exact thickness of paint etc to the metal.Factory paint is VERY consistent. It is sprayed on by computers, always the same thickness. So, it is easy to tell what is factory paint.Different readings, inconsistent and thicker coatings will identify parts of the car that have been repainted, AND spots where they have filled in dents or even hail damage with putty and body filler.Repair paint is not the same as factory paint. It often fades much sooner, the color changes so it doesn't match the rest of your car, or it may even peel. Often it will rust in a few years.A newer car that has been in an accident is also worth less money.Considering what cars cost these days, this is a very small investment.
