About this item

  • The original power outage alert system: This device, built by Bell Labs engineers to protect their homes, notifies of power outages.
  • Security away from home: You will never again have to ask, "Is my power out?" or "Is there a power outage in my area?"
  • Immediate detection: You will be alerted of a power failure in your home or business within seconds of the event. You will receive separate alerts for power outages and power restoration.
  • WiFi-enabled: Connect the MySpool Power Failure Detector to your home WiFi to begin receiving text messages, emails, or push notifications during power failures and power restoration.
  • Multiple phone numbers and email addresses: Add 2 phone numbers and up to 5 email addresses per device for seamless notifications to multiple people—keep everyone who needs to be in the know!
  • Monitor outlets for outages and GFI shut-off: The alert message includes a device description to identify the device's location, e.g., freezer alarm or garage GFI outlet.
  • Cloud-based remote configuration: You can update, add, and remove emails and phone numbers from wherever you are. No hub is required, and it can be configured remotely without being near a physical device. Other devices require you to make changes with the device in hand. All MySpool products are cloud-based and give you the power and flexibility to make updates from wherever you are.
  • 2.4 GHz WiFi access during a power outage is required; please check before ordering.
  • MySpool Monitoring included: This device sends daily connectivity check-ins to your device to verify internet connectivity. If the check-in fails, you will receive a "check WiFi" notification via email and SMS.
  • No fees or subscription costs. Multiple phone numbers and email addresses are supported. MySpool devices are designed only to use the internal AAA batteries to send Power OFF notifications. They should last seven or more years, and notices will be sent with reminders and instructions on how to replace them. Never worry about a power failure at your home or business again.

Product Description

Be alerted away from home or business: MySpool Power Failure Alert is a smart device that sends an alert when power failure is detected. An alert is also sent when power comes back on. That alert is a message, either via email or text, or both. Power Failure Alert is configured to use your WiFi (see Important Note below). The setup takes a few minutes with a smart phone or a laptop.

No Hub Required: Each Power Failure Alert works independently with your Wi-Fi network. Multiple devices can be placed in different locations throughout your home or business. Your notifications will include your text for each device that you specify in the device configuration.

No Fees: There are no fees for using MySpool Power Failure Alert for any notifications. Multiple telephone numbers and emails addresses (up to five) can be added for each device free of charge. A complimentary Central Monitoring service is also included free of charge.

Smart design: MySpool Power Failure Alert will ignore short duration power fluctuations of a few seconds so that no unnecessary notifications are sent. Note that since no device is permitted to send more than 1 alert per minute, your POWER ON notification may be delayed by up to 1 minute if power comes back on immediately. Each device requires 3 AAA batteries, included. The batteries should last 5 years or more assuming average power outages and fluctuations.

Important Note: one requirement for the Power Failure Alert deployment is that a WiFi network is available when A/C power outlet being monitored loses power. A good example is a UPS backed WiFi router which Power Failure Alert uses to access MySpool cloud servers.

Currently MySpool products are supported in US and Canada only.

Power Failure Alert

You are done: trigger an alert from your device by unplugging it and receive an email notification!

Device Configuration: 3 steps

MySpool setup

MySpool device setup Summary

1. Connect your device to WiFi

2. Create account on myspool.com

3. Configure your email and text message on myspool.com

The first step is the most challenging one. It should also be done first so that MySpool servers can identify your device when you login to configure it.

MySpool WiFi Setup

Step 1. Connect your device to WiFi

Open your phone, go to Settings, and choose Wi-Fi. Under the CHOOSE A NETWORK tab you will see available networks. One of them will be the MySpool Device. It will look like SASensor-000000 where "000000" is the unique device ID. In the example it is shown as SASensor-2336877. Click on it.

Once connection is established, which may take a few seconds, it will open a browser window with Alerts WiFi Manager.

MySpool WiFi setup

Step 1, continued. Configure WiFi

Click Configure WiFI. You will see a list of networks that MySpool device can use.

Select your WiFi router and enter its password. Click Save. Note: SAS network will not be visible on your phone after this step.

You can now use your laptop or smartphone to create an account on myspool.com and specify where you want your emails and text messages sent.

Works well! Easy to set up on an iPhone, even with split band WiFi. If you lose WiFi when you lose power, you will want an APC for your WiFi so you can get the lost power signal sent out before the APC runs out of battery. I like how you can customize the message sent if power on or off

We installed a weather proof housing on the outside of our Airbnb property in northern Ontario. We use the MySpool (x2) to monitor the power to our wood fired hot tub's GFI circuits that power the pump, heat trace and pond de-icer. That way if it trips when we are not there and a deep freeze is expected, we can send out one of our trades to check the system or reset the breaker before the plumbing freezes. Its a little tricky to set up; but once done it works well with both an email and text message that you can customize to the name of the circuit you are monitoring. We have it emailing three of us and texting two of us.

Using it to monitor my sump pump plug. So far, so good. Linked it to my WiFi and it provides an e-mail and text in case of a power failure or a blown breaker for that plug. Sets my mind at ease.

Please be mentally prepared:1. I bought the 1st device, only to find out it was defective. (Unable to configure Wi-Fi)2. I bought the 2nd device, only to find out it could only receive notifications when the power was connected (the problem could not be solved based on the help guide provided by the website)3. I bought the 3rd device, and this time I finally got a device that works properly...4. Now I am going to return the first 2 devices I bought...

I tried everything at first and gave up as it would not connect to my wifi even though I followed every step (I'm technically sound). Just before I decided to return, I tried the "Wifi (No Scan)" connection option where you have to manually enter the SSID of your Wifi network. Surprisingly that worked immediately even though the normal method where it scans and detects the Wifi was picking the same connection.Any way, it connected immediately, works amazingly and sends alerts when the device loses AC power or when it turns back on. Beautiful. Now I can monitor my Aquarium when not nearby.SMS does not work for outside of US however email works just fine.

Within 10 months after receiving, acid leaking from sides of unit. When I popped it open, I found all three Amazon AAA alkaline batteries leaking badly. Terminals corroded. Otherwise unit worked very well.

My cousin who is a network specialist told me I should get this product for my garage which I own in another province. I was having issues with grid power outages, as the property is more remote, and decided to set up the barn with a UPS and also this device. I could not be happier. This product works exactly as intended and notifies me via email and text when the power goes off and comes back on. I know how long I have my UPS engineered for so this gives me piece of mind knowing that what I have running will stay running for the time it is supposed to. If I don’t receive the notification of the power coming back on in time I can take further actions and call someone local to assist. The piece of mind I get from this device is worth every dollar spent and more. I would recommend this device to anyone. I will be ordering another for my primary residence.
